Housemakers is an established family business that has operated for over 40 years, now with 3 superstore retail sites. Today we are a Home & Garden Department Store with the same family that originally opened the first store still at the helm and actively involved at every level of the business.
We have a tremendous range of departments in our stores and pride ourselves on offering unrivalled customer service with low value for money prices and extensive product ranges. A number of our departments are related to home decorating, such as paint, wallpaper & tiles. These product ranges however do not lend themselves to retailing on-line, as a customer, you need time to choose colours & patterns, which may not show themselves correctly on your computer monitor. However, there are other departments which do lend themselves to retailing on-line, ranging from our Cookshop to Home Furnishings section, or Gardening & Garden Machinery to our Leisure department.
Our on-line venture is operated under the same principles that we operate our superstores, we are offering an extensive range of products at low value for money prices with our team of staff available via a telephone call or e-mail if you want help choosing a product or if you need after sales service post delivery.
Or maybe you just want to get on with your purchase, you know what you want and just want to place your order, our website has been designed to be user friendly and self-explanatory, easy to search or browse and easy to place your order with an encrypted checkout area to ensure your card details are kept safe.
A question we are often asked is “how do we compete against the buying power of the national chainstores?” We buy in bulk often directly from the manufacturers overseas and pass these cost savings on to the consumer. Our long term relationships with major manufacturers & suppliers both overseas and in the UK ensures we can take advantage of special discounts or promotions they offer and again these cost savings are passed directly to our customers. We do not have to report our profit figures to a vast array of shareholders, we own our properties and do not have to pay exorbitant rent on prime retail sites or warehouses, we do not have the expenses and overheads of large national stores and are true negotiators when it comes to business dealings. All this means that as an independently owned enterprise we have the ability to compete against those better known retail stores you may expect to have massive buying power, and we are able to pass these cost savings on to you, our customer, rather than to the Board of Directors or into the pockets of institutional investors.
Many of our staff have worked within the company for many years, such people having a wealth of knowledge on the products they sell. Hence we have knowledgeable professionals who can answer your queries, each department having a Supervisor who is employed for their ability to offer customer service and advice on their specialist product range, be it cookware or garden machinery. Just because we are retailing on-line does not mean you cannot speak to a real person for advice.
We have selected a comprehensive range of products to sell on-line from a number of our departments, browse our website and see what we have on offer, at present we have over 1300 products listed ranging from kitchenwares to garden machinery, the majority from brand names you will already recognize such as Brabantia or Hozelock. And this range will change on a constant basis, check out our Christmas Department when the festive season is upon us.
